Privacy Policy
Engram is built around a simple principle: your 3D files belong to you, and they should never leave your computer unless you choose to send them somewhere. This policy explains what data Engram does and doesn't collect.
Who we are
This website (engram3d.com) and the Engram application are operated by ENGRAM SOFTWARE LTD., a corporation incorporated under the laws of Canada. Mailing address:
ENGRAM SOFTWARE LTD.4245 Birchwood
Burnaby, BC V5G 4E6
Canada
For privacy questions or to exercise the rights described below, contact our Privacy Officer at support@engram3d.com. We act as the data controller for any personal information we collect.
The short version
- Your files stay local. 3D models, thumbnails, tags, notes, and library data are stored only on your device.
- No analytics in the app. Engram does not contain analytics, telemetry, or tracking out of the box.
- Privacy-preserving website analytics. This site uses a cookieless analytics service that does not set cookies, does not assign you a persistent identifier, and does not track you across other sites.
- License keys are validated by an external service. If you activate Pro, your license key and a machine fingerprint are sent to our licensing provider for validation. Nothing else.
- No accounts. The free tier requires no signup.
What stays on your device
The following data is stored exclusively on your local filesystem and is never transmitted to us or any third party:
- 3D model files (STL, 3MF, OBJ) and any archives you import
- Generated and custom thumbnails
- Tags, ratings, favourites, notes, and folder structures
- Search history and view preferences
- Slicer paths and other application settings
What is transmitted, and to whom
License validation (Pro tier only)
When you activate a Pro license, Engram sends the following to our external licensing provider:
- Your license key
- A machine fingerprint — a one-way identifier derived from your hardware. We cannot reverse it to identify your computer.
This provider also acts as our payment processor. When you purchase a Pro license, your billing information (name, email, payment details, billing address as required by tax law) is collected and stored by the processor under its own privacy policy. We receive only your email, license key, and purchase metadata — never your payment details. We will disclose the specific provider on request — email support@engram3d.com.
Optional telemetry
If a future version of Engram introduces telemetry, it will be opt-in, clearly labeled in Settings, and limited to anonymous, aggregated counts (e.g. file count, OS version, app version). File names, tag names, and file contents will never be transmitted.
Launch announcement list
If you submit your email through the "Notify me at launch" form on this site, we store:
- The email address you provided
- The date and time you consented and the exact text you agreed to
- Which page the signup came from (e.g. "download-section", "pricing-pro")
- Your IP address, browser user-agent, and country, retained only for security and abuse-prevention
This data is stored in North America. Our lawful basis for processing this data is your express consent. You can withdraw consent and request deletion at any time by emailing support@engram3d.com. When you withdraw, we will delete your email address and signup metadata from our records and you will not receive the launch announcement. Withdrawing email consent does not affect any Pro license you have purchased.
Where your data may be processed
Some of the providers we rely on for licensing, payment processing, and infrastructure operate outside Canada. When your personal information is processed in another jurisdiction, it may be subject to the laws of that jurisdiction, including access by foreign courts, law enforcement, and national-security authorities.
Analytics and cookies
This website uses a privacy-preserving, cookieless analytics service to measure aggregate traffic. The service records:
- Pages visited and the referring site or campaign
- Country (derived from your IP at request time; the IP itself is not stored alongside the metrics)
- Browser, operating system, and approximate screen size
It does not set cookies, does not assign you a persistent identifier, and does not build profiles of individuals or track you across other sites. Our lawful basis for this processing under the EU/UK GDPR is our legitimate interest in understanding overall site usage. Because no cookies are used and no individual profiles are built, no consent banner is required. You can opt out of measurement by enabling your browser's tracker-blocking or "Do Not Track" setting, or by using an ad/tracker blocker.
Our hosting and CDN providers may receive standard request metadata (such as IP address, user agent, and request path) under their own privacy policies as part of operating the service. We do not maintain a separate copy of these logs.
How long we keep your data
- Aggregate website analytics: stored only as anonymous counts and dimensions; no personally identifying record is kept alongside the metrics.
- Launch list signup record (email, consent text, source, IP, user-agent, country): retained until you unsubscribe or request deletion. After launch, we will not add you to ongoing product newsletters without separate consent.
- Pro purchase records: retained by our payment processor under its policy; we keep our copy of license key + email for as long as needed to support your license.
Children
Engram is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect data from them. If you believe a child has provided us information, please contact us and we will delete it.
How to complain
If you believe we have not handled your personal information in accordance with this policy or with applicable privacy law, please:
- Email our Privacy Officer at support@engram3d.com with "Privacy concern" in the subject line. We aim to acknowledge receipt promptly and respond within 30 days.
- If you are not satisfied with our response, you may escalate to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada (if you are in Canada), to your local data-protection authority (if you are in the EU/UK), or to the equivalent regulator in your jurisdiction.
Your rights
Regardless of where you live, you can email support@engram3d.com to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you
- Correct information that is inaccurate or incomplete
- Delete your personal information (we will confirm in writing)
- Withdraw consent to receive launch or product emails

We aim to respond within 30 days. There is no charge.
If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, you also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data-protection authority. If you are in Canada, you may contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada. California residents may exercise CCPA rights via the same email; we do not sell or share personal information.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the product evolves. Material changes will be announced on this page with an updated "Last updated" date.
